Sometimes I get super caught up in how well my peers are doing. How yet another friend landed their dream job. Or I hear about a couple celebrating their five year anniversary. Or I see a picture of my gal pal riding elephants in Thailand.
I admit I get the case of wanting to "keep up with the Joneses". You know exactly what I am talking about because, hell, we are all human! So, we get jealous. And we demand to know why their greatness (what ever that may look like) isn't happening in your life.
WHY THEIR SUCCESS DOES NOT DISCOUNT YOURS
I admit I get the case of wanting to "keep up with the Joneses". You know exactly what I am talking about because, hell, we are all human! So, we get jealous. And we demand to know why their greatness (what ever that may look like) isn't happening in your life.
WHY THEIR SUCCESS DOES NOT DISCOUNT YOURS
But that's just it... it's their greatness, not yours.
Whenever I find myself getting green with envy, I have to remind myself that their success does not discount my success. We should be celebrating, supporting, and cheering on our friends. Their success and mine aren't negatively correlated (their success doesn't equal my failure). Lift others up. It won't make you less than, it will make you larger than (life!). It will make you a better friend. And, a better person.
Everyone has different notions of success. Success isn't identical, it's personal. So stop comparing yourself to others. Seriously. Stop. Start focusing on your own individual growth. Ask yourself the question: Am I better than I was yesterday? If yes, great. Keep that up and you're headed in the right direction. If no, do better tomorrow. It's that simple people!!!
Success is a funny thing. It can have the power to help or hurt you. Stop focusing on passing your friends, and start focusing on passing yourself. And when you start to focus on your own growth, you're life will become more fulfilling. And, more often than not.... you will be happier.
