I cannot believe the holidays are behind us. The hype of Christmas is over. Christmas music isn't blasting from the radio. Bare trees are starting to line up on the curb. People are back to work. And these past twelve months? Bam! Behind us.
The New Year is creeping up on us, which means a brand new year. A fresh start. A chance to change things we didn't like this past year. Get rid of volatile relationships. Make amends. Try something new. Set goals. Be better. No better time to think about what you want to change for the New Year.
New Year resolutions can be daunting. And, are more often than not, quickly fleeting after just a short amount of time. There is an underlying pressure of following through. Yet, somehow we manage to justify stopping. We don't really have time to work out. Or volunteer. Or heck, it's impossible to stop cussing.
It's time to not only set your intention for the New Year, but keep it.
5 STEPS TO MAKING A NEW YEAR RESOLUTION (AND STICKING TO IT!)

1. Figure out what you want to change
Close your eyes and think about this past year. What didn't work? Were you happy? What stopped you from being great? Was it your haunting past creeping up after being suppressed for ten years? Or did you just give up? Settle? Were you unfocused? Channel that and decide your intention for the New Year.
2. Set a goal
Set a goal that is attainable. You probably won't be a millionaire in a year if you're just getting out of college. Maybe your goal is landing a job after graduation that has growth potential. Maybe you want to break all ties with a hurting relationship. Maybe you want your blog to reach 5,000 daily views. Or maybe you want to lose twenty pounds. Or start a daily journal. Define what you are working towards.
3. Pick a time frame
When do you want to accomplish this goal? A daily journal? Does your goal take six months? Five years? What little steps need to be met? Acknowledge these little victories. Each step is vital to your success.
4. Check up on progress
We have busy lives. We get caught up in the day-to-day madness. So, we need a little push sometimes to get us back on the path. So, set reminders in your phone. Or jot down weekly goals in your Lilly planner to attain that big goal. Heck, write in red lipstick on your bathroom mirror. Sticky notes on your desk. Drink out of a coffee mug with a word or phrase that brings you back. Back to your goal.
5. Don't be afraid to adjust
Adjusting your goal doesn't mean you have failed. It means you are adapting to change. It means you are open. Not rigid. Not stuck on a one set track. Life doesn't always go according to plan. And, thats okay.
You can accomplish great things this year. What are your New Year resolutions??
