This weekend has either left you feeling one of two ways: happy to be in love or feeling lonely. This post is dedicated to the latter. Valentine's Day shines a bright light right in your eye. There is no hiding from it. It's plastered all over social media. The supermarket is covered in pink and red sweets and decorations. Maybe you felt a little sorry for yourself this weekend. We've all been there (my hand raised!). Down in the dumps. Feeling alone. But you know what? You need to love yourself before anyone else can. After all, how can you expect someone else to enjoy your company if you can't?
BE COMFORTABLE WITH BEING ALONE
BE COMFORTABLE WITH BEING ALONE
Get comfortable with being alone. Yup. It's okay to be alone. This will down right scare the living shit out of you. You'll want to escape the loudness of your own thoughts. It can be dark. And scary. And lonely. But, it can also be inspiring. And relaxing. And therapeutic. The risk of discomfort can lead to greatness.
What's so great about being alone?
1. You get to be 100% you.
You can breathe. No makeup. No forced smile (or conversation for that matter). No expectations. No judgements. No noise. No crowded room. No pressure. Just yourself. You'll learn to accept yourself. You'll start to understand that you are enough. Believe that. Down to the nitty-gritty core. You'll grow. And, unlock your unique identity.
2. You can meditate.
This is an incredibly powerful tool that has the potential to change your life. It's a learned art, that takes practice (so don't be too hard on yourself!) Close your eyes. Turn off the noise in your head. Stop searching high and low for all of the answers... and be still. It is so rare that we allow ourselves even five minutes of stillness. It's easy to get caught up in how busy our world is. Appreciate the silence.
3. You can create.
Believe it or not, there is beautiful energy cooped up inside you. Maybe you'll discover that you love to paint. Or write. Or sing. Or (fill in the blank!). Lose yourself in your creative work. Everyone has the potential to create. Give yourself time to tune into your magic.
4. You can connect to nature.
Maybe that means watching the sunset on the beach. Sitting in the sand. Eyes glued to the horizon. Admiring the golden sky. Listening to the waves. And smelling the fresh salty air. Be one with the universe. Take the time to appreciate beautiful everyday situations.
5. You can learn stuff.
About yourself. About how to be better. Listen to that voice inside your head. Are you happy and fulfilled? Should you change something? Start trusting yourself. Be kind to yourself. Remind yourself of your dreams. Your passions. Your goals. Your inner most desires. Redefine what happiness means to you.
Start enjoying the pleasure of your own company. Sit in the quietness of your own thoughts. Indulge in your own unique self. Love yourself. It's an experience that will change your life. It's a beautiful gift to yourself.
